Itineraries Of The Day

After arrival to Belgrade airport your private transfer will bring you to Belgrade, the capital and the “soul” of modern Serbia. The city has fought over in 115 wars and was all together destroyed 44 times. It was a principal city of Ottoman Europe, the capital of Yugoslavia and a metropolitan capital of the Serbian Republic. Today, it is a modern city of about 2 million inhabitants.

Check into your hotel, followed by a short panoramic tour (time permitting) and a leisurely walk through Skadarlija. Conclude the day with a welcome dinner featuring live music at a local restaurant.

Overnight in Belgrade

 

After breakfast you will start your journey with the visit of Kalemegdan fortress, one of Belgrade’s top attractions. This is the biggest park in Belgrade and is the perfect place to take in the views of where the Sava and Danube rivers meet.

Continue with the visit of St. Sava Temple, the largest Orthodox church of the Balkans. Every day, its grandiose bell towers with almost 50 bells announce noon. The cupola is being adorned with a 1,248 square metre mosaic, one of the world’s largest on a curved surface.

After some free time for lunch visit the Museum of Nikola Tesla. Nikola Tesla, an American scientist of Serbian origin, gave his greatest contribution to science and technological progress of the world as the inventor of the rotating magnetic field and of the complete system of production and distribution of electrical energy (motors, generators) based on the use of alternate currents.

Enjoy a dinner at a local restaurant.

Overnight in Belgrade

After breakfast and check- out drive to Smederevo for a visit, the administrative centre of eastern Serbia. Besides the special export of grapes and white wine, the city is home to the only operating steel mill in the country. You will also visit Smederevo Fortress, the largest medieval fortresses in Eastern Europe. This is the last great creation of the Serbian military construction, built with great efforts to replace already lost Belgrade.

After some free time for lunch continue with the visit of Viminacium Archaeological Park that was the capital of the Roman province of Moesia (today’s Serbia), and the military camp. The archaeological site occupies a total of 450 hectares, and contains remains of temples, streets, squares, amphitheatres, palaces, hippodromes and Roman baths.

Drive to Srebrno Lake and check into your hotel, followed by dinner at the hotel.

After breakfast and check-out drive to Golubac for a visit of Golubac fortress. Originally a Roman settlement, the fortress was built around the 14th century, passing through the hands of the Ottomans, Hungarians, Bulgarians and Austrians before the Serbs secured it once and for all in 1867. Today, it is a fabulous place to wander around and gasp at the lofty views of the ramparts and the mighty Danube. You will enjoy a short cruise on Danube river.

After some free time for lunch continue the drive through National Park Djerdap. The main feature of the national park is the Djerdap Gorge, known as the Iron Gate. The gorge stretches nearly 100 kilometres alongside the slopes of the Carpathian Mountains, creating a wide and deep section of the Danube. Here is one of the deepest river points found in the world at over 80 meters.

On the way to Rtanj you will also make a stop at Lepenski vir for a visit. Lepenski vir was the centre of one of the most complex prehistoric cultures. This site also includes the Museum with the most significant archaeological findings with additional exhibition and virtual reconstruction of the settlement.

Check into hotel in Rtanj and enjoy a dinner at a local restaurant.

Overnight in Rtanj

After breakfast and check-out and drive to Zajecar for a visit of Felix Romuliana archeological site. Its remains were found in the archaeological site known also as Gamzigrad. Galerius built a grandiose imperial complex, fortified with walls and 20 defensive towers. The complex was named Romuliana after the Emperors mother, Romula.

After some free time for lunch continue to Nis for a visit. Serbia’s third-largest metropolis is a lively city of curious contrasts, where Roma in horse-drawn carriages trot alongside new cars, and posh cocktails are sipped in antiquated alleyways. It’s a buzzy kind of place, with a high number of university students, packed-out lane-way bars, a happening live music scene and pop-up markets and funfairs come summertime

Check into hotel in Nis and enjoy a dinner at a local restaurant.

Overnight in Nis

 

After breakfast drive to Pirot, small town with a long and turbulent history. This is the town in which you can taste homemade hard cheese and the delicious pressed sausages, meet women who still weave famous Pirot rugs and feel the southern spirit of the people that live at the place where ancient Roman settlement once stood.

Visit the Museum of Ponisavlje which offers a comprehensive look into the area’s history, traditions, and crafts. Visitors can explore exhibits featuring traditional Pirot kilims, a type of woven rug that is a symbol of the region’s artisanal craftsmanship.

Continue with visit of manufactory of Pirot’s carpets. Unique shape and colours make Pirot’s rug recognizable throughout the world. Pirot carpets are very thin but extremely dense. They have two identical sides and are geographically protected, which means that they can only be made in the Pirot area, and out of Pirot sheep.

After some free time for lunch drive back to Nis with stop at Cele Kula museum for a visit. Cele kula (The Skull Tower) is a monument unique in the world, tower made of human skulls, built after the battle for liberation of Nis in 1809. This horrific monument was built as a warning to anyone rising against the Ottoman Empire. Contrary to Turkish intention, the tower serves as proud testament to Serbian resistance.

Return to Nis and enjoy a dinner at a local restaurant.

Overnight in Nis

After breakfast and check-out drive to Manasija Monastery for a visit. With its 11 towers from 15th century it was a fortified hideout for artists and writers fleeing the Turkish invasion. Many consider its frescoes to be predecessors to the Serbian equivalent of Renaissance art.

Continue to Resava Cave which was was created before the great ice age by the subterranean rivers that had cut their path in the limestone terrain. It is one of the oldest and at the same time the most beautiful in Serbia. Regardless of the season of the year, the temperature in the cave is 7 degrees, while the humidity varies from 80 to 100%.

After some free time for lunch, drive to Belgrade. Check into your hotel and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.
