Depart from Underberg at 08h00 in a 4×4 vehicle (collection en route if applicable), and journey up the spectacular Sani Pass, stopping for a warm cup of tea at Sani Mountain Lodge. From there, we ascend Black Mountain Pass for a short walk to a scenic vantage point offering views of Thabana Ntlenyana, the highest peak in Southern Africa at 3,482 metres above sea level.
The journey continues through the breathtaking Sehonghong Valley, with a stop in Mokhotlong, once considered the most remote village in the British Empire. Here, we enjoy a brief walking tour of the town’s main street, where you can admire the rare Spiral Aloe and browse the colourful street stalls.
We end the day at Oxbow Lodge, where you’ll enjoy dinner and a comfortable overnight stay amid the highlands.
After breakfast, the group will depart Oxbow Lodge and travel back through Mokhotlong, continuing on to St James Mission to admire the church’s remarkable painted ceiling — a hidden gem of Lesotho’s highlands. The journey then winds back through the Sehonghong Valley, with a chance to spot the rare and majestic Bearded Vulture along the way.
We return to Sani Mountain Lodge for lunch before descending the iconic Sani Pass, arriving in Underberg around 16h00 to conclude the adventure.
