This breathtaking site offers panoramic views of the two rivers below. According to tradition, it was here that St. Nino, a revered female evangelist, erected a large wooden cross on the site of a former pagan temple.
Continue to Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, a magnificent fortified cathedral dating back to the 11th century. One of Georgia’s most sacred places, it is believed to be the burial site of the Robe of Christ, making it a significant spiritual and historical landmark.
Continue along the scenic Georgian Military Highway to Ananuri, a historic architectural complex that once served as the residence of the Dukes of the Aragvi region. We leave Stepantsminda and set off on a scenic drive through the breathtaking Sno Valley, passing charming villages and rugged mountain landscapes along the way. Our journey brings us to Juta, one of the highest settlements in the region, located at 2,200 meters above sea level.
Upon arrival, take time to explore this remote mountain village, where traditional stone houses blend harmoniously with the dramatic surroundings. From the upper part of the village, you’ll be rewarded with a spectacular view of the towering Chaukhebi Massif.

Next, visit Uplistsikhe, the fascinating rock-hewn town dating back to the 2nd millennium BC. Perched on the left bank of the Mtkvari River, Uplistsikhe showcases a unique blend of rock-cut architectural styles, reflecting both pagan and Christian influences. As you wander through its ancient caves and passageways, you’ll discover remnants of history, including centuries-old wine presses carved into the stone, a testament to Georgia’s deep-rooted winemaking tradition.
Afterward, continue your journey to Kutaisi, one of Georgia’s oldest cities, steeped in rich history and culture. Its charming old town beautifully preserves the city’s ancient heritage, offering a glimpse into the past while showcasing its timeless appeal.

In the morning, visit Bagrati Cathedral, an 11th-century masterpiece built during the reign of King Bagrat III and known as “the symbol of united Georgia.” The cathedral was officially rebuilt on September 16, 2012, preserving its historical significance and grandeur.
We then set off for Svaneti, driving through the scenic Enguri Gorge, where the first inhabitants—mainly gold prospectors—settled in ancient times. This area was rich in Colchis gold, which was mined for centuries. The Svan ethnic group developed here in isolation, surrounded by towering, inaccessible mountains, and their unique culture remains largely intact. Historically, Svaneti was an important part of the Kingdom of Colchis.
Stop for photos at the Enguri Dam, currently the world’s second-highest concrete arch dam, standing at a remarkable height of 271.5 meters (891 feet).
Arriving in Mestia, enjoy a sightseeing tour, starting with a visit to the Margiani House-Museum, where you can explore a typical Svan house and its iconic tower. Take a walking tour of Mestia, and visit the Historical-Ethnographic Museum of Mestia, which houses invaluable artifacts, including manuscripts from the 10th-12th centuries, religious texts from the 9th-11th centuries, icons, metalwork, and gold coins from the antique and late antique periods, along with several Bronze Age treasures.

Today we explore Ushguli, one of the highest villages in Europe, and a unique medieval village-fortification, surrounded by the towering 5,000-meter giants of the Caucasus Mountain Range. Ushguli, along with the entire region of Upper Svaneti, is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The village is dotted with typical Svanetian defensive towers, which are integral to its architectural charm.
According to legend, it was in the Ushguli towers that the Georgian monarch and saint, Queen Tamar (12th-13th century), had her summer and winter residences.

In the morning, drive to Zugdidi, a charming town with rich historical significance.
Explore the impressive Dadiani Palace, a castle-like building that dates back to the 17th to 19th centuries. Inside the palace, discover a fascinating museum that houses one of Napoleon Bonaparte’s rare bronze death masks, a unique artifact acquired through a 19th-century marriage between a member of the Dadiani family and a descendant of Napoleon’s sister.
After your visit, continue your journey to Batumi, a vibrant coastal city on the Black Sea, known for its blend of modern architecture, botanical gardens, and picturesque beaches.
